The Iranian Youth Cinema Society reported that ‘Black Canvas’ by Shirin Ekhlasi is competing in the 11th edition of the American event.
‘Black Canvas’ is about a refugee from Guinea who is trying to leave his past behind by painting a canvas, but he faces obstacles.
The film is the sole representative of Iran in the LOFT’s documentary section.
‘Black Canvas’ previously took part in the 37th Tehran International Short Film Festival in Iran and the 13th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in South Korea.
The Loft Film Fest is dedicated to “showcasing the best independent, foreign and classic films, as well as celebrating the work of established and emerging directors, writers, producers and actors”, an online submission platform reads.
The festival “aims not only to expand the audience for cinema that challenges, inspires and entertains, but also to honor those artists whose talent and passion bring that cinema to life”.
The 11th Loft Film Fest opened on Wednesday and will run until November 18.
